Chap. 98.—JOINT RESOLUTION returning thanks to certain per-
sons, donors of portraits.
Approved February 14, 1882.
Resolved (the house of delegates concurring), That the
thanks of the general assembly be tendered to iiss Virginia
Keane for a portrait of President James Monroe; to Captain
James Wharton Harrel, of the British army, for a portrait
of Count de Rochambeau; and to Miss Martha J. Archer, for
a portrait of Honorable William S. Archer.
hat the general assembly accepts these portraits with a
high appreciation of the generosity of the donors and the
value of the gifts.
That the Librarian be requested to receive these portraits
and place them appropriately in the library.
That a copy of these resolutions be communicated to each
of the respective donors.
CoaP. 94.—JOINT RESOLUTION appropriating a certain sum to
defray the expenses of the joint committee appointed to confer with
the committee of the Maryland legislature on the boundary line
along the Potomac river.
Approved February 14, 1882.
Resolved, the house of delegates concurring, That there
shall be appropriated such a sum as may be necessary, not to
exceed two hundred dollars, out of any money in the treas-
ury not otherwise appropriated, to defray the expenses of the
joint committee appointed to confer with a like committee of
the Maryland legislature in reference to the boundary line
along the Potomac river, &c. ;
Chap. 98.—JOINT RESOLUTION requesting the extension of the
United States geological survey into the states.
Approved February 14, 1882.
Resolved by the general assembly of Virginia, That our
Cnited States senators be instructed, and our members of the
house of represenatives requested, to vote for and use all
proper means for securing the passage of an act authorizing
the United States geological survey to extend its work into
and over the several states of the Union.
Chap. 98.—An ACT to extend.the time for the collection and payment
of the revenues, for eighteen hundred and eighty-one, in the county
of Alleghany.
Approved April 21, 1882.
Whereas from sickness in his family and other hindrances,
alleged by him, the commissioner of the revenue for the
county of Alleghany, failed to make up his books of assess-
ment of taxes for said county for the year eighteen hundred
and eighty-one, until the latter part of February last, and
thereby the tax-payers of said county have not had opportu-
nity to pay the same, or the treasurer the means to make
and report collections thereof, within the periods required by
law; therefore,
1. Be it enacted, That the periods for the collection, pay-
ment, and return of the taxes for the said county, for the
assessment for eighteen hundred and eighty-one, be extended
for six months beyond the time or times required by law,
and that the treasurer, collector, and tax-payers of said
county, be relieved from all penalties, or forfeitures, or im-
posts thereon incurred by reason of the same being not pre-
sented, accounted for, paid or settled within the periods
required by law, anything in any act of the general assembly
to the contrary notwithstanding.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
