Chap. 92.—An ACT for the relief of the citizens of Carroll county.
Approved April 21, 1882.
Whereas the failure of crops was so universal in Carroll
county, for the year eighteen hundred and eighty-one, that
there is danger of suffering on the part of many persons
(who are not fit subjects for support at the poorhouse), unless
some organized effort be made to afford relief; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the board of supervisors of the county of Carroll, be and
they are hereby authorized to borrow a sum of money not
exceeding five thousand dollars, to be used in the purchase of
corn for such citizens of the county as may, in the judgment
of said board, require assistance to relieve temporary want.
The said board may issue bonds of the county therefor, in
sums of fifty dollars, or multiples thereof, bearing a rate of
interest not greater than eight per centum per annum. The
said bonds shall be receivable by the county treasurer in pay-
ment of any taxes or county levies hereafter to be assessed
by said county, which shall fall due within three years. The
county treasurer of said county shall receive and receipt for
the money so borrowed, and pay over the same on the order
of the board of supervisors of said county, or its authorized
agents.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
