Chap. 6.—JOINT RESOLUTION for the appointment of a joint
committee of the general aseembiy of Virginia to confer with a like
committee of the fe islature of Maryland, in reference to the boun-
dary line along the Potomac river, &c.
Approved January 9, 1882.
Whereas uncertainty still exists as to what is the real boun-
lary line between the states of Maryland and Virginia along
the Potomac river, by reason of the failure of the arbitrators
appointed to ascertain the boundary line between said states
to define and limit the meaning of the term “headland”’ a
used in the said award, or to locate such “headlands’’ upo!
the plat filed with said award; in consequence whereof th
jurisdiction of said states is still in doubt, and litigation an
conflict is constantly arising on said waters; therefore,
1. Be it resolved by the general assembly of Virginia, Tha
a joint committee, to be composed of two on part of the sen
ate and three on the part of the house of delegates, b
appointed by the president of the senate and speaker of th
house, to confer with a like committee on the part of th
general assembly of Maryland, and to frame and report sucl
a law or compact as will settle all questions of jurisdiction
or doubt as to said boundary line, and to report such bill o
bills to the legislatures of their several states in reference t<
oystering and fishing in the waters of the Potomac river as
shall be of mutual benefit and satisfaction to the citizens o
both states.
2. Resolved, The governor of the commonwealth of Vir
ginia is requested to transmit a copy of these resolutions at
once to the governor of Maryland, to be by him laid before
the general assembly of Maryland immediately on its assem.
bling, on the first of January, eighteen hundred and eighty-
two, and request their concurrence in the same.
3. This joint resolution shall take effect from its passage.
Chap. 6.—An ACT to provide for the election of two commissioners
of the revenue for the county of Roanoke.
Approved March 29, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
at the next general election to be held in the county of Roa-
noke on the fourth Thursday in May, eighteen hundred and
eighty-two, and every four years thereafter, there shall be
elected by the qualified voters of said county, two commis-
sioners of the revenue for said county, instead of one, as
now provided for by law. The first district shall be com-
posed of Salem and Catawba magisterial districts, and the
second district shall be composed of Cave Spring and Big
Lick magisterial districts.
2. All acts and parts of acts in conflict with this act are
repealed.
3. This act shall be in force from and after its passage.
