Chap. 58.—AN ACT to incorporate the Colored Masonic Mount Zion
Lodge, No. 18, of Staunton.
Approved February 4, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
J.J. Christian, W. W. Lewis, O. F. Johnson, S. Bromoner, J.
H. Scruggs, and all others who now are, or may hereafter
become associated with them, be and they are hereby consti-
tuted a body politic and corporate, by the name and style of
the Colored Masonic Mount Zion Lodge, number eighteen, of
Staunton, Virginia, and by that name may sue and be sued,
plead and be impleaded, have perpetual succession and a
common seal, and in all respects shall be invested with the
rights and privileges conferred, and subject to the restrictions
and regulations prescribed for corporations by the general
law, so far as the same are applicable to this corporation and
not inconsistent with this act.
2. The said corporation may take by purchase, gift, devise
or bequest and hold real and personal estate, lease, rent, sell
or otherwise dispose of the same in such manner as may
seem most advantageous: provided that it shall not hold real
estate exceeding one acre of land. The principal building of
the order shall be in the city of Staunton.
3. The object of the order shall be the mutual benefit and
protection of its members, to give aid to the sick, bury the
dead, and care for the orphan chi'dren of deceased members.
4. The said order shall have power to make and adopt a
constitution and by-laws, rules and regulations for the admis-
sion, regulation and expulsion of members, and for their
government; the election of officers, and define their duties;
for the safekeeping and protection of its property and funds:
Nir the same be not inconsistent with the laws of the
nited States or of this state.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
M.S. Langhorne, W. O. Owen, junior, E. E. Portlock, Daniel
A. Langhorne, Stephen Adams, George D. Witt, Ed. Shaeffer,
Max Guggenheimer, junior, Charles Kk. Heald, B. KE. Vaughan,
John W. Marshall, Peter J. Otey, C. EK. Busey, James T. Wil-
liams, and John H. Smith, and such others as may be asso-
ciated with them, shall be and are hereby constituted a body
corporate, by the name of the Lynchburg, Mozart associa-
tion, to be located in the city of Lynchburg, for the purpose
of musical culture and entertainment.
2. The said corporation shall have power to make and
adopt a constitution and by-laws, rules, and regulations for
the admission and expulsion of its members and their gov-
ernment, the election of its officers, and to define their duties,
and for the safekeeping and protection of its property and
funds, and from time to time, to alter or repeal such consti-
tution, by-laws, rules, and regulations: provided that the
same be not inconsistent with the constitution and laws of
the United States or of the state of Virginia.
3. The said corporation may purchase and hold or lease
any real or personal estate: provided they shall not hold real
estate exceeding one acre of land.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
Chap. §9.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section six of an act enti-
tled an act to incorporate the new Rawley Springs company,
approved February 26, 1877.
Approved April 18, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That section
six of an act approved by the general assembly of Virginia,
February twenty-six, eighteen hundred and seventy-seven,
entitled an act to incorporate the New Rawley Springs Com-
pany, be amended and re-cnacted so as to read as follows:
§ 6. The directors provided for in the next preceding sec-
tion, shall constitute the board of directors of said company,
and as such shall have the control and management of the
affairs of the company, shall elect a treasurer, secretary, and
other officers, employ all necessary labor for the company,
and have general supervision of the business thereof. The
shall, annually, on the first Thursday in November, of eac
year, submit to the stockholders a written statement of the
condition of the capital stock, paid and unpaid, the amounts
of debts existing against the company, specifying to whom
said debts are due; the receipts and disbursements made to
said date; which said statement shall be verified by the affi-
davits of the treasurer. Said statement shall be filed by the
secretary of the company.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage. °
