Chap. 240.—An ACT to incorporate the Labor Association of Lynch-
burg, Virginia.
Approved March 6, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
William Merchant, f. H. Jobnson, J. H. Henderson, Martin
Ferguson, oar, Oh easly , Thomas Jackson, J. J. Morchant,
Wesley Davis, William Caalloway, Luke Brown, and such
other persons as are now, or may hereafter become members
of the association, be and:they are hereby constituted a body
politic and corporate, by the name and style of The Labor
Association of Lynchburg, Virginia, who, by that name, may
sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, in all courts of the
commonwealth.
2. The object of this corporation shall be to protect the
interest and promote the general prosperity, by legal and
honorable means, of the laboring classes of said city. It
may take and hold so much real and personal estate as may
be suitable for its objects within the city of Lynchburg, not
to exceed in value ten thousand dollars.
3. The place of business of said corporation shall be in the
city of Lynchburg, and it may make such by-laws, rules, and
regulations, consistent with the laws of this state and the
United States, as it may deem proper for the government of
its members, the management of its affairs, and for the use,
enjoyment, and control of its property.
4. The legislature reserves for itself the right to modify
or repeal this act at pleasure. .
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
