Chap. 225.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section eleven of an act
approved fifteenth February, eighteen hundred and eighty-two, in
relation to public roads in Amherst and Nelson counties.
Approved March 6, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That section
eleven of an act approved fifteenth of February, cighteen
hundred and eighty-two, entitled an act to provide for work-
ing and keeping in repair the public roads in Amherst and
Nelson counties, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as
follows:
§ 11. The board of supervisors in the said counties are
hereby anthorized to order a special election, to be held in
their respective counties on the fourth Thursday in May,
eighteen hundred and eighty-two, and it shall be the duty of
the officers conducting said election to receive the ballots of
the qualified voters who shall vote upon this act, which bal-
lots shall be as follows: “For the road law,” and “against
the road law.” The ballots so cast shall be deemed and taken
as a vote for or against this act, and the manner of reccivin
and canvassing the ballots, and making returns thereof, shal
be in accordance with existing law, except that the certifi-
cate of the judges shall be as follows: We hereby certify that
at the election held on the fourth Thursday in May, eighteen
hundred and eighty two, votes were cast for the road
law, and —— votes were cast against the road law.

2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
CuapP. 226.—An ACT to change the name of the Elizabeth City and
Norfolk Railroad Company to the Norfolk Southern Railroad Com-
pany.
Approved March 6, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the gencral assembly, That the name
of the Elizabeth City and Norfolk railroad company, a Cor-
oration chartered by an act of the legislature of North
arolina, passed on the twertieth day of January, eighteen
hundred and seventy, and confirmed by an act of the Vir-
ginia legislature, approved on the twenty-third day of Feb-
ruary, eighteen hundred and seventy-five, be and it is hereby
changed to that of the Norfolk Southern railroad company,
under which name it may exercise all the powers, and shall
have all the rights, privileges, and advantages conferred by
the said act of incorporation, and all acts amendatory thereof;
provided that this change of name shall not go into effect
until the legislature of North Carolina shall have assented
thereto.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
