Chap. 214.—An ACT to enlarge the powers of the Boards of Super-
visors in this state.
Approved March 6, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the board of supervisors of each county in this state shall, in
addition to the powers now invested in them by law, be
authorized and have full power and authority to provide
against famine, starvation, and pestilence, and may for their
respective counties, purchase such breadstuffs and meats as in
their opinion may be needed for the relief of those threat-
ened with starvation and unable to provide for themselves;
to make such sanitary regulations as said board may deem
proper for their respective counties; and to make and order
all levies necessary to carry out the provisions of this act.
2. Any contracts necessary under this act may be reduced
to writing and signed by the chairman of the board, which
shall be evidence against the county.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
