Chap. 1838.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sections three and six of
chapter eighty-two of the Code of eighteen hundred and seventy-
three regulating lunatic asylums and the oare of insane persons and
their estates, and to add additional sections thereto.
Approved February 15, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
sections three and six of chapter eighty-two, Code of cigh-
teen hundred and seventy-three, be amended and re-enacted
so as to read as follows:
§ 3. The boards of directors of the Central, Eastern, and
Western lunatic asylums shall consist of eleven members
each, the term of office shall be for three years, commencing
on the first day of March, eighteen hundred and eighty-two,
and continue until their successors are appointed. Six direc-
tors shall constitute a court for the transaction of business.
$6. Said boards of directors shall assemble upon the first
day of March, eighteen hundred and eighty-two, or as soon
thereafter as possible, at the asylums for which they are
appointed respectively, and shall elect superintendents, who
shall be physicians, and may appoint executive committees
and officers, nurses, and other attendants for their asylums,
respectively, and prescribe their compensation, and generally
reorganize said asylums, as to said boards may seem right
and proper.
o9. The offices of all directors to said asylums, as at
present constituted, shall be and the same are hereby de-
clared vacant upon the first day of March, eighteen hundred
and eighty-two; and all offices therein filled by said boards
of directors, as at present constituted, shall be and the same
are hereby declared vacant upon the first day of March,
eighteen hundred and eighty-two.
60. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent herewith arc
hereby repealed.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
