Chap. 173.—An ACT to incorporate the Narrows Bridge and Ferry
Company.
Approved February 21, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
William A. French, Joseph Hare, George Shumate, William
Adair, and James B. Peck, with such other persons as may
be associated with them, be and they are hereby constituted
a body politic and corporate, by the name of The Narrows
Bridge and Ferry Company, and by that name shall have all
the powers, rights, and privileges necessary and proper to
locate, construct, and maintain a bridge and ferry across New
river, in the county of Giles, at a point on said river near
Narrows in said county.
2. The capital stock of said company shall not exceed the
gum of twenty thousand dollars, and shall be divided into
shares of ten dollars each; and whenever five hundred dol-
lars shall have been subscribed, the subscribers shall be incor-
porated by the name, and for the purposes aforesaid, with
power and authority to effect the same.
3. The said company shall have power to acquire landings
on both sides of said river, and sites for abutments and piers,
by condemning the same in the manner prescribed by sec-
tions five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, and eleven of chapter
fifty-six of the Code of eighteen hundred and seventy-three.
4. The officers of said company shall be a president, secre-
tary, treasurer, and as many directors as the company at its
organization may elect, and shall be elected annually by the
stockholders.
5. The principal office of said company shall be at Nar-
rows, Giles county, Virginia; and the said company shall
have all the powers, and be subject to all the liabilities and
restrictions, which pertain to corporate companies in the
state of Virginia.
6. The tolls to be charged by said bridge and ferry com-
pany, shall be the same as those now charged by the nearest
ferry on Now river to the piace where the said company shall
estab.ish their ferry or bridge.
7. This act shall be in force from its passage.
