Chap. 170.—JOINT RESOLUTION for the appointment of a joint
committee to investigate the disaster at Midlothian coal mines, and
provide for the better protection of miners.
Approved February 21, 1882.
Whereas an awful disaster has befallen the miners of the
state at Midlothian, in the county of Chesterfield, whereby a
large number of families incurred the greatest bereavement
known to humanity; therefore,
Resolved (the house of delegates concurring), A committee
of five to be appointed, consisting of two members of the
senate and three of the house of delegates, to consider the
circumstances of this and other disasters, and to report their
findings, or a bill which shall guard our miners against future
perils; the committee shall have power to send for persons
and papers.
