Chap. 116.—An ACT to authorize the Presbyterian church of the
town of Lexington to acquire and hold additional land within the
limits of the town of Lexingtan, to that now owned by said church
and congregation.
Approved February 14, 1882.
Whereas, under the act of the legislature of Virginia,
passed May twenty-second, eighteen hundred and fifty-two,
entitled an act to secure to the congregation of the Presby-
terian church of the town of Lexington, certain property
within the limits of that town, the trustees of said church
and congregation are entitled to hold the land and house
appropriated for a parsonage, and also its church lot and
graveyard, containing together four acres and eighty-seven
square poles; and whereas it has become necessary for said
church and congregation to enlarge the said graveyard lot,
which is the only cemetery now used by the white citizens
of said town for the burial of their dead; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall
be lawful for the Presbyterian church and congregation
of the town of Lexington, to acquire within the limits
of the town of Lexington, an additional tract of land for the
purpose of enlarging said graveyard, and to hold title to the
same through its trustees, in whom is vested the legal title of
its other real estate in said town: provided however, that the
quantity of land so held as a graveyard shall not exceed ten
acres.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
Chap. 116.—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors to increase
the compensation of the clerk of the circuit court of Norfolk county.
Approved April 22, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
an act entitled an act to authorize the board of supervisors
of Norfolk county to make an allowance to the clerk of the
circuit court of said county from the treasury thereof, for
services rendered by him (approved April second, eighteen
hundred and seventy-seven), be amended and re-enacted so
a8 to read as follows, namely:
§ 1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That it shall be lawful for the board of supervisors of Nor-
folk county to cause to be paid from the treasury of said
county, to the clerk of the circuit court of said county, such
an amount as the judge of the said circuit court shall certify,
as a just allowance for the services rendered by said clerk to
the commonwealth and said county: provided, however, that
such allowance shall not exceed the sum of five hundred
dollars for any one year.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
