Chap. 115.—An ACT to confirm a deed of conveyance executed by the
trustees of Smithfield Baptist church (white), in Smithfield, Virginia.
Approved February 14, 1882.
Whereas, by a deed bearing date on the twelfth day of
November, eighteen hundred and eighty-one, A. J. Cofer, W.
W. Cofer, W. S. Grimes, R. F. Barrett, S. G. Boykin, and
Warren Vanderventer, trustees for the Smithfield Baptist
church, in the town of Smithfield, Virginia, conveyed to W.
D. Folk, trustee for Anna M. Delk, a part of the real estate
in said town belonging to said Baptist church; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the said deed of conveyance be confirmed, and made valid
and binding, and that possession be given to the said W. D.
Folk, trustee, as aforesaid.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
Chap. 115.—An ACT to amend and re-enact the fourth section of an
act approved March third, eighteen hundred and eighty-two, entitled
an act to constitute the town of Abingdon, and a certain portion of
the surrounding country, a separate school district.
Approved April 22, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the fourth
section of an act approved March third, eighteen hundred
and eighty-two, entitled an act to constitute the town of
Abingdon and a certain portion of the surrounding country
a separate school district, be amended and re-enacted so as
to read as follows:
§ 4. The county school board of the county of Washing-
ton shall have the power to appoint three school trustees,
from any part of such district, to serve one, two, and three
years, respectively: and annually thereafter it shall appoint
a school trustee, to serve for three years. The said trustees
shall have power to manage and regulate the schools, to pro-
vide teachers, fix their salaries, provide for all necessary
expenses, and perform all other duties, and be clothed wit
all the power now vested in trustees of school districts.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
