Chap. 10.—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Louisa
county to borrow a sum of money for certain purposes.

Approved January 14, 1882.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it may be lawful for the board of supervisors of Louisa
county to borrow a sum of money, not to exceed in amount
the sum of two thousand dollars, and to issue the bonds of
the county, redeemable in five years, and to bear a rate of
interest not to exceed six per centum per annum, to defray
and pay the expenses incurred by the said county in the care,
treatment, and support of small-pox patients, and to prevent
the spread of the disease in the county.

2. The bonds authorized to be issued under this act, shall
be signed by the president of said board, and countersigned
by the clerk of the county, with the county seal annexed,
and shall specify upon their face that provision has been made
for the payment of one-fifth of the same annually on the
first day of June.

3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
Chap. 10.—An ACT to incorporate the Farmville Manufacturing
Company.

Approved March 29, 1882.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
G. M. Robeson, L. M. Blanton, Albert Hurd, Charles Bugg,
R. S. Paulett, A. R. Venable, junior, W. W. H. Thackston, i .
M. Venable, S. B. McKinney, J. P. Fitzgerald, O. T. Wicker,
N. E. Venable, C. M. Walker, N. H. Champlain, and such
others as may be’asgociated with them, and their successors,
be and they are hereby constituted a body politic and corpo-
rate, under the name of The Farmville Manufacturing Com-
pany, and as such may sue and be sued, may have acommon
seal, and may buy and hold real estate in the counties of
Prince Edward, Cumberland, and Buckingham.

2. That the capital stock of said company shall not be less
than fifty dollars, nor more than one million dollars, to be
divided into shares of one hundred dollars each, payable at
such times and in such proportions as the majority of the
stockholders may in general meeting determine, or at such
times and in such proportions as the board of directors,
elected by a majority of such stockholders in general meet-
ing assembled, may determine.

3. The chief office of said company shall be at Farmville,
in the county of Prince Edward. The number, duties, and
emoluments of the officers of said company shall be deter-
mined by a majority of the stockholders in ‘general meeting
assembled.

4. A majority of said stockholders in general meeting
assembled shall have power to pass rules, regulations, and
by-laws for the government of the same.

5. The said company shall have full power to conduct such
manufacturing business in cotton, woolen, paper, and other
fabrics, in wood, iron, lime, and of agricultural implements,
as the stockholders, or directors elected by the stockholders,
may determine.

6. The said company shall have power to borrow money
for the purpose of its business, to an amount not exceeding
two-thirds of its subscribed capital stock, and on such secu-
rity as the directors may determine.

7. It shall be lawful for the board of supervisors of the
county of Prince Edward, and the town council of the town
of Farmville, by the vote of the majority of all the members
elected, to authorize the payment to the treasurer of said
company, annually, of a sum of money equal to the agere:
gate sum paid by said company for taxes assessed on behalf
of said county and town, respectively, for a period of ten
years: provided that such payment shall not extend to any
levy assessed by said board of supervisors, or town council,
for free school purposes.
