CHAP. 45.—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of HNenry
county to levy a tax to pay subscription to the Danville and New
River railroad,
Approved March 31, 1879.
Whereas by a vote taken on the eleventh day of September,
eighteen hundred and seventy-five, in the county of Henry, a
subscription of one hundred thousand dollars was voted by
the people of said county to the stock of the Danville and New
River railroad company for the purpose of constructing a rail-
road known as the Danville and New River Narrow-Gauge
railroad ; and whereas it is suggested that said subscription of
one hundred thousand dollars may require the imposition of an
annual tax in excess of the amount on the one hundred dollars’
value of taxable property specified in section sixty-two, chapter
sixty-one, Code eighteen hundred and seventy three ; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the super-
visors of Henry county be and they are hereby authorized to
carry out the wishes of the majority of the voters of said
county as expressed by said vote, or which may hereafter be
expressed by the voters of said county, and to assess and levy
such annual tax as may be necessary to pay the said subscrip-
tion or any such subscription to said company as may here-
after be made, the limitations of the amount of taxation as
prescribed in the sixty-second section of chapter sixty-one,
Code of eighteen hundred and seventy-three, to the contrary
notwithstanding.
9. This act shall be in force from its passage.
