Chap. 35.—An ACT to authorize the councilmen of first and third
wards in the city of Manchester to determine their respective terms
of oftice by lot.
Approved March 31, 1879.
Whereas section fonr of an act entitled an act providing a
charter for the city of Manchester, provides that there shall
be elected three councilmen from each ward in said city, whose
term of office shall be one, two, and three years respectively ;
and whereas at the last election. held on the fourth Thursday
in May, eighteen hundred and seventy-cicht, for the purpose
of electing said council, the councilmen elected from the first
and third wards were voted for without any designation as to
their respective terms of office; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the councthnen so elected in the first and third wards of the
city of Manchester, at the election held on the fourth Thurs-
day in May, eighteen hundred and seventy-eight, be and are
hereby empowered to determine their respective terms of office
by lot.
2. Nothing in this act shall be construed to interfere with «
the provisions of the charter of the city of Manchester in re- ‘
gard to the election of councilmen.
3. This act shall be In force from its passage.
