Chap. 130.—An ACT ta attach the school districts of Dau River, Tun-
stall and North Danville, in Pittsylvania county, to the city of Dan-
ville for purposes of school supervision.
Approved April 2, 1879.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the school
districts of Dan River, Tunstall and North Danville, in the
county of Pittsylvania, shall be attached to the city of Danville
for purposes of school supervision. The superintendent of
schools of the city of Danville shall have the same duties and
privileges with respect to the school districts above named as
are at present devolved upon the superintendent of schools for
the county of Pittsylvania. But in all other respects the school
affairs of these three districts shall be under the same control
as af present. The school funds of Dan River, Tunstall and
North Danville districts, shall be levied, collected and appor-
tioned in the same manner as at present, but shall be turned
over in bulk by the county treasurer to the treasurer of Dan-
ville without commission, who shall place the sums to the cre-
dit of the said districts respectively, keeping the county and
district, as well as the state funds, separate, and paying them
out on the warrants of the school boards of these districts, as
required by the general laws upon the subject. His compensa-
tion for disbursing these moneys shall be the same as that
allowed by the county board for disbursing state school funds.
The superintendent of schools for Danville shall not be a mem.
ber of the county school board, but he shall have the privilege
and if shall be his duty to meet with the county school board
whenever the interest of the schools of Dan River, Tunstall
and North Danvile districts are involved, and he shall be at
liberty to make motions and address the board with as much
freedom as a member. It shall be his duty also to render all
proper aid in securing appropriations from the board of super-
visors, and to co-operate with the authorities of the county in
securing the school interests of said districts.
2. In the appointment of school trustees for Dan River, Tun-
stall and North Danvule districts, the school superintendent of
Danville shall be snbstituted on the county electoral board for
the county superintendent in voting and deliberating. But the
record of all such appointments of district trustees shall con-
tinue to be kept in the books of the county electoral board, and
notice of these appointments shall be given by the clerk of the
county electoral board as well as for the other districts.
3. The annual reports of the clerks of Dan River, Tunstall
and North Danyille districts shall be made to the city superin-
tendent instead of the county superintendent.
4. This act shall take effect on the first day of August, eigh-
teen hundred and seventy-nine, unless a vacancy In the super-
intendent shall sooner occur, in which ease the act shall take
effect at the occurrence of such vacancy.
