the proceeds of sales of public lands to aid the cause of education, &c.

of said net proceeds among the several states shall be made
according to the numbers of their respective population of ten
years old and upward who cannot read and write;” therefore,
1. Be it resolved by the general assembly of Virginia, That
in the opinion of this body the setting apart of the proceeds of
the public lands to this most worthy and necessary object
would be an eminently wise, practical and patriotic act.
Z. That our senators and representatives in congress be
requested to give prompt, active and persistent aid in securing
an early passage of this bill.
