Chap. 80.—An ACT to prohibit the pulling down and leaving down
of fences in the county of Princess Anne.
Approved February 16, 1880.
Whereas by an act of the general assembly of Virginia,
approved March twenty-fifth, eighteen hundred and seventy-
five, the judge of the county court of Princess Anne was
required to submit the question of continuing or repealing the
fence law to the voters of the said county at the first general
election held thereafter, and from such returns and abstracts of
votes so cast on the question of continuing or repealing the
fence law in said county it appeared that three-fifths of the
qualified voters of the county aforesaid voting upon the ques-
tion were in favor of continuing the fence law, and that the
said three-fifths included a majority of the votes cast by free-
holders at such election and a majority of the registered voters
of the county ; and whereas it is highly expedient in the best
interests of the people of the said county to secure such legis.
lation pertaining thereto as will thereby tend more effectually
to carry out the expressed wish of the people and likewise to
restore and enhance the general prosperity and pecuniary in-
terests of the people of said county; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
any person pulling down and leaving down their fences in vio-
lation of this act shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, to be pun-
ished by fine and imprisonment at the discretion of the county
court of said county.
n't 2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
