CHAP. 76.—An ACT to exempt the counties of Westmoreland and
Northumberland from the provisions of the 25th section of chapter
214 of. the Acts of 1874,in relation to planting and bedding oysters.
Approved February 16, 1880.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That §
section twenty-fifth, chapter two hundred and fourteen, Acts of 4
eighteen hundred and seventy-four, be amended so as to read
as follows :
§ 25. It shall not be lawful for any person to plant or pur- Vv
chase oysters for the purpose of planting, bedding or depos- >
iting them from the fifteenth day of May to the first day of t
September; and if any person shall violate this provision he P
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction
thereof he shall be fined for each offence not less than ten dollars
nor more than fifty dollars: provided, that this section shall P
not be so construed as to prohibit the citizens of Westmore-
land and Northumberland counties from taking oysters at any
time from the Potomac river for the purpose of bedding or
depositing them in the tributaries of the Potomac within said
counties.
