CHAP. 70.—An ACT to incorporate Freedom Lodge, No. 199, An-
cient, Free and Accepted Masons, of the town of Lovettsv ille, in’
the county of Loudoun.
Approved February 10, 1880.
Whereas there is established in the village of Lovettsville, in
the state of Virginia, a benevolent institution known as Free-
dom Lodge, Number One Hundred and Ninety-nine, Ancient,
Free and Accepted Masons, which has for its objects mutual
aid and assistance of its members in time of sickness and
burial of deceased members, the support of their widows and
orphans ; |
Whereas it is believed that the facilities of the said institu-
tion for the accomplishment of its benevolent purposes would
be greatly promoted by obtaining an act of incorporation of
the trustees of the said Freedom Lodge; therefore, © |
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Thomas J. Cost, worshipful master; George F. Eamich, senior
warden; D. A. Dinges, junior warden; Peter A. Fry, secre-
tary, and George Wire, treasurer, and their successors in office,
elected in accordance with the by-laws of said lodge, be and
they are hereby appointed a body politic and corporate by the
name of Trustees of Freedom Lodge, Number One Hundred
and Ninety-nine, Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, at Loy-
ettsville, Virginia, and by that name shall have a perpetual
succession in office and a common seal, may sue and be sued.
plead and be impleaded, and do all and every act necessary te
enjoy the powers hereinafter conferred.
2. The said trustees may acquire, receive, hold possessior
and enjoy, and may borrow a sum of money not exceeding
one thousand dollars, to pay the indebtedness on the hal
building, and execute a deed of trust to secure the said amount
and may rent, sell, convey and otherwise manage or dispose o
any money or property belonging to them in such manner a
they shall be required by a vote of the members of said lodge
jn regular meeting assembled: provided, that the amount of:
and held by them shall not exceed one acre.
) 3. The said lodge, at any meeting called by the worshipful |
master for this purpose, shall have power to fill all vacancies
in the board of trustees, the persons to fill such vacancies to
_ be chosen from the membership of said lodge.
_ 4, Whenever the said lodge shall surrender its charter to the -
Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, of Vir- |
_ginia, or from any other cause shall cease to exist, the said |
trustees, or a majority of them, shall have authority to sell
and convey the land and other property held by them for the
use of Freedom Lodge, Number One Hundred and Ninety-
nine, Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, and distribute the
/ money arising from such sale and any other money belonging
to the said lodge, ratably among the members in good stand-
ing at the time of such surrender of the charter.
_ §. Three trustees shall constitute a quorum for the transac-
tion of any business under this act.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
