CHAP. 268.—An ACT to ascertain whether or not the charters of the
Lynchburg and Salem, Lynchburg and Campbell Courthouse, and
Lynchburg and Concord Turnpike companies have been complied
with, and if not, to provide a mode for forfeiting the same.
Approved March 9, 1880.
1. Be it enactéd by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be the duty of the judge of the county court of Camp-
bell county, at its April term, eighteen hundred and eighty, to
appoint three disinterested freeholders of said county, whose
duty it shall be, having been first sworn for that purpose, to go
over the lines of the Lynchburg and Salem turnpike, the Lynch-
burg and Campbell Courthouse, and the Lynchburg and Con-
cord turnpike, lying within the limits of Campbell county, and
make report to the said county court, as soon thereafter as con-
venient, whether or not the companies having charge of said
roads respectively, have, for the space of three successive years
next preceding said report, ceased to use or failed to keep their
respective roads in such order as is required by their respective
charters throughout the entire length of their lines in and out
of said county, and whether the same is now in such order.
2. If from such report it appears that said companies, or
any or either of them, have, for the space of three consecutive
years next preceding said report so failed to keep said roads in
such order as is required by their respective charters, said court
shall at once proceed to declare the charters of any of such
companies so having failed to keep their roads in order forever
forfeited, and the interest of any company in such road and the
tolls thereon shall be forever forfeited and cease.
3. Said viewers shall be paid two dollars per day for the
time necessarily occupied by them in performing the duties
hereby required of them, to be paid by the said county of
Campbell.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage.
