Chap. 84.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an aet approved Mareh
17, 1876, entitled an act deelaring lieus on the baggage and effects
of boarders.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
where an agreeinent shall have been made between the keeper
of any ordinary, house of private entertainment or boarding-
house, and any person boarding or lodging at such house
regarding the price of board or lodging, all the baggage and
effects kept by such person at such ordinary, house of private
entertainment or boarding-house, shall be subject to a lien in
favor of the keeper of such ordinary, house of private enter-
tainment or boarding-house, for all such sums as shall be at
any time due from such persons for such board or lodging, and
the keeper of any such ordinary, house of private entertain-
ment or boarding-house, may retain such baggage and effects
until such debt shall be paid; and if it be not paid within
thirty days after it is due, he may, after due notice, sell such
property or such part thereof as may be necessary, at public
auction, and apply the proceeds of sale to the payment of such
debt.
2. When an agreement, expressed or implied, shall have beer
made between the keeper of any ordinary, house of privat
entertainment, or livery stable, and any person keeping horse:
or other animals, vehicles, or harness at such livery stable
regarding the price of stabling and provender or pasturage fo
such horses or other animals, all the animals, vehicles, or kar
ness so kept by such person at such ordinary, house of private
entertainment, or livery stable, shall be subject to a lien ir
favor of the keeper of such ordinary, house of private enter
tainment, or livery stable, for all such sums as shall be at any
time due from such person for keeping and providing for sucl
horses or other animals, and the keeper of any such ordinary
house of private entertainment, or livery stable, may retair
such horses or other animals, vehicles, and harness until suc!
debt shall be paid; and if not paid within thirty days after il
is due, he may, after due notice, sell said property or so mucl
thereof as may be necessary, at public auction, and apply the
proceeds to the payment of such debt.
