Chap. 57.—-An ACT to enable and authorize the conmon coueil
of Danville to levy a special tax for the purpose of paying the
floating debt of said city, and for public improvements.
Approyed February 1, 1879.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Vireinia, That
the council of the town of Danville, in addition to the powers
of taxation now conferred by the charter of said town, be an-
thorized and empowered to levy and impose upon the real and
personal property, licenses and other taxable subjects of said
town, a special tax in and for the years eighteen hundred and
seventy-nine and cighteen hundred and eighty, not exceeding
in all the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars, for the purpose
of paying the floating debt of said town and public improve-
ments : provided, that not more than twelve thousand five hun-
dred dollars shall be so levied and imposed in any one of said
years; and, provided also. that the ordinance of the council
levying and imposing said tax shall be published prior to the
fifteenth day of May, in each of said years, and shall not there-
after be changed or altered with a view to increasing the tax of
that year, or imposing a tax on other subjects than those in
said ordinance des-gnated.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
