CHAP. 257.~—An ACE to allow Barnes Brothers, of New hens, to ereet
a pier jo Chi: hamoniny river, below Binn’s bar.
Approved March 8, 187).
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for James Hi. Barnes and Brothers, citizens
of New Kent and James City counties, to erect a pier in the
Chickahominy river, below the bar known and called Binn‘s
bar, in said river: provided that the same shall be wholly inside
its low water mark, and shall not obstruct or hinder the naviga-
tion of said river, and shall not obstruct access to any estab-
lished landing ia said river.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
CHAP, 2o8.—-Au ACT amending the charter of the town of Lovetts-
ville, Loudoun county, aud further extendme the protection of the
corporate powers of the town of Lovettsyille to all religious denom-
Inalion~ worshipping within a mile of said town.

1. Be it cnacted by the general assembly, That an act en-
titled an act to incorporate the town of Lovetisville, Loudoun
county, approved March the twenty-seventh, eighteen hundred
and seventy-six, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as
follows :
2. That the recorder shall keep an accurate record of all the
proceedings of the council, its hy-laws, acts and ordinances,
which record shall be open at all times to the inspection of any
voter of the town; and the recorder shall be treasurer of said
corporation, whose duties and coinpensation as such shall be
prescribed by the council; and the council may appoint such
other officers as they may deem proper, and define their powers,
duties and compensation.
3. That for the purpose of carrying into effect the police
regulations of said town, the said town shall be allowed the
use of the county jail of Loudoun for the safe-keeping and con-
finement of all persons who shall be sentenced to imprisonment
under the ordinance of said town.
4, That the sergeant of said town be invested with the full
power of a constable within the limits of said town, and one

mile beyond said limits. He shail collect the town taxes, and
may distrain and sell therefor in like manner as a collector of
state taxes may distrain and sell for state taxes, He shall
perform such other duties and receive such compensation as
the counci) may prescribe.
®. That the boundaries, streets and alleys of the town of
Lovettsville, as shown by the survey and plan made in con-
formity with the act of incorporation approved March twenty-
seventh, eighteen hundred and seventy-six, shall he and the
same are hereby declared to be the boundaries, streets and
alleys of said town.
6, Be it further enacted, That all religious denominations who
worship within one mile of the limits of this corporation, who
may petition to the mayor and council, by their pastor or trus-
tees, for protection of church, cemetery and worship, shall be
protected and governed by the same ordinances as govern within
the limits of this corporation.
7. This act shall be in force from its passage.
