Chap. 234.—An ACY to incorporate the Grand United Order of Sons
and Daughters of Zion, of the state of Virginia,
Approved March 3, 1879.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
John Williams, Micajah White, Robert Green, Charles Murray,
William If. Lee, Trim Banks, Richard Veters, Reuben Payne,
Joseph Conway, Mary Washington, Annie Critcher, Louisa
Peters, and all others who now are or may hereafter become
associated with them, be and tlicy are hereby constituted a body
politic and corporate, by the name and style of The Grand
United Order of Sons and Daughters of Zion, of the state of
Virginia; and by that name may sue and be sued, plead and
be impleaded, have perpetual succession, and a common seal;
and in ail respects shall be invested with the rights and privi-
leces conferred. and subject to the restrictions and regulations
prescribed for corporations by the general law, so far as the
same are applicable to this corporation and not inconsistent
with this aet.
2. The said corporation may take by purchase, gift, devise.
or bequest, and hold real and personal estate, and lease, rent,
sel], or otherwise dispose of the sanie in such manner as may
seem most advantageous: provided it shall not hold real estate
exceeding one acre of land in any county or corporation of this
commonwealth The principal building of the order shali be
in the city of Alexandria,
3. The objects of the order shall be the mutual benefit and
protection of its icembers, to give aid to the sick, bury the dead,
and care for the orphan children of deceased members.
4. The said order shall have power to make and adopt a con-
stitution and by-laws, and rules and regulations for the admis-
siou and expulsion of members, and for their guvernment, the
election of its officers, and to define their duties; and for the
safe-keeping and protection of its property and funds: pro-
vided the same be not inconsistent with the laws of the United
States or of this state.
5. This act shall be in forec from its passaye.
Cirap. 235.—An ACT to amend aud and re-enact section 8 of chaptet
19 of the Code of 1878, in velatiou to the duties of Superintendent
of Public Printing.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section eight of chapter nineteen of the Code of eighteen hun.
dred and seventy-three, be amended and re-enacted so as tc
read as follows:

9 8. He shall purchase from the lowest responsible bidder (to
‘be determined, in case of appeal, during the sessions of the
general assembly by the joint committee on public printing,
and during the vacation by the governor, secretary of the com-
monwealth and treasurer), all the stationery needed for the
printing and binding let out by him, and furnish the same to
the printer as it may be needed, the accounts for the purchase
of which. certified by him to be correct, shall be presented by
him to the secretary of the commonwealth, who shall certify
the same to the auditor of public accounts, and the anditor shall
orant a warrant therefor on the treasury; and all contracts
made for the purchase of said stationery shall be subject to and
regulated by the laws now in force in relation to contracts for
public printing.
2. This act shall he in force from its passage.
