CHAP. 197.—An ACT providing for submitting the question of liquor
license or no liguor license to the qualified voters of Fairfax county
at the first election for district officers, aud at every subsequent elec-
tion for district officers.
Anproved March 3, 1879.
1. Be it enacted by, the general assembly of Virginia, Thot
it shall be the duty of the osfeers conducting the elections in
the several magisterial districts in the county of Fatefas, at
the time and place of holding the first election for district off-
cers alter the passage of this act, and every subsequent election
for district officers thereafter, tn Propare a separate buallat-box
for each of the several voting preeinets, in which saagh be ce-
posited the ballots of the then bpealiieds voters who may cesire
to vote upon the question of license for the sale of Intoxicatug
liquors in said districts. The ballots shall be respectively
as follows: “For license for the sale of intoxicating liquors ;”
* Against license for the sale of intoxicating Hquors.” It shall
be the duty of the sheriff of said county to post notices of said
election at the several voting places in said county not less
than fifteen days preceding said election.
2. The manner of receiving and canvassing the ballots at
such elections on said questions, and makiug returns ar nd ab-
stracts thereof, shall conform in all respects to the requirements
of the general electiow law of the state, except that the certifi-
cate of the judges shall he as follows:
We hereby certify that at the election held — —
votes were cast for license for sale of intoxicating liquors. and
votes were cast against license for the sale of intoxi-
cating liquors.

And the county canvassers of the returns made to the clerk's
office shall canvass these returns in like manner as other elec-
tion returns, and certify for each district the votes cast for and
ncainst license respectively, a copy of which shall be laid
fore the county court by the clerk at the next term there-
alter.
3. Af it appear Troma wus ahstracts and returns of any such
election, that in any magisterial district of said county a ma-
jority of votes have been cast against iivensc for the sale of
intoxicating liquors, then no license for such sale i any of tne
districts 50 voting shall be granted, and any person who shall
seil any intoxicating liquors in any such district, sball incur
all the penalties prescribed by the general law for selling wine,
ardent spirits, malt liquors, or any tixture of any of them
without a license therefor.
