CHAP. 161.—An ACT to amend and re-enact the second section of an
act entitled an act to incorporate the Port-mouth Water Company,
approved February 15, 1879.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia. That
the second section of an act approved February iiftcenth, eigh-
teen hundred and seventy-nime, entitled an act to incorporate
the Portsmouth water company, be amenled and re-enacted so
as to read as follows:
62. The purposes and objects for which said company is
incorporated, and which if is authorized to effect, are the eon-
struction, on any plan that may be approved, of reservoirs,
force-pirmps, engines, and any and all fixtures and appurte-
nances necessary thercfor, and the laying of pipes, main and
lateral, to convey water from lake Drummond, or from the
Dismal swamp canal, or from Deep ereck in Norfolk county, or
from such other points as may be deemed imost suitable, into
the city of Portsmouth, and the Gosport navy-yard, and United
States naval hospital, and to such other points or places in
Norfolk county as the government of the United States may
own and desire water to be carried to; and for these purposes
the said company shall have all the grants, rights, privileges,
and franchises necessary to carry into effect the purposes, ob-
jects, and intents of the said company.
