Chap. 134.--An ACT for the better protection of game in Alexandria
and Fairfax counties.
Approved February 27, 1879
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall not be lawful for any person to kill or capture any wild
water-fowl in Fairfax and Alexandria counties, of this state,
between the first day of May and the @rst day of September of
pach year; nor shall it be lawful to kill or capture said water-
fowl at any time during the night—that is, between dark and
daylight. Nor shall it be lawful to kill wild water-fowl, except
with a gun that can be raised and fired at arm’s length, without
a rest.
2. It shall not be lawful for any person to kill or capture any
sora, or ortolan, reed-birds and black-birds, between the first
day of January and the first day of September of each year.
8. It shall not be lawful to kill or capture hares or rabbits
from January the fifteenth to September the fifteenth of each
ear.
” 4. Any person so offending against the above law in the
counties of Alexandria and Fairfax shall be fined the sum of
ten dollars, and in default shall be committed to jail for not
less than two nor more than five days.
5. Any person so offending against the above law in Alex-
andria and Fairfax counties can be arrested with or without a
warrant by any citizen of this commonwealth, on land or water,
and carried before a magistrate for trial.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
