Chap. 111.—An ACT to amend section 1, chapter 39, Code of 1873
in reference to the price paid for land warrants for waste land.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That section one
of chapter thirty-nine of the Code of Virginia, edition of eigh.
teen hundred and seventy-three, be amended and re-enacted sc
as to read as follows:
§ 1. A person desiring to purchase any waste and u-appro.
priated land, authorized by law to be sold, shall pay into the
treasury ten cents for each acre of the same, and so in propor.
tion for a greater of smaller quantity. The treasurer shall give
to the purchaser a receipt for the money paid, specifying the
purpose for which the payment is made. The receipt being
delivered to the auditor of public accounts, he shall give to
such person a certificate thereof, stating the quantity of land
he is entitled to, and thereupon the register of the land office
shall issue a grant therefor. But this act shall not be construed
as prohibiting the issne of duplicate warrants or grants where
the originals have been lost or destroyed , but when it shall be
made satisfactorily to appear to the proper officer that the party
applying for such duplicate fully comphed with the requir2-
ments of the law existing at the time the said originals were
issued, and that the same have been lost or destroyed, he shall
issue proper duplicates therefor.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
