Chap. 84.—-An ACT to incorporate the United Ocean Club of Norfolk
city.
Approved February 20, 1878.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Frank Collins, Andrew J. Dalton, John Starro, E. C. Robin-
son, W. T. Taliaferro, John L. Nash, James Mayer, Francis
Word, W. H. Lyons, Frank Slade, James Milligan, William
F. Anderson, James L. Thayer, C. L. Benson, and such other
persons as are now associated as the United Ocean club, or
who may hereafter be associated with them, be and they are
hereby constituted a body corporate by the name of the
United Ocean Club, to be located in the city of Norfolk, for
the promotion of social intercourse, and for the purpose of
maintaining a library and reading room.
2. The capital stock of said corporation shall not be less
than one nor more than ten thousand dollars, to be divided
into shares of twenty-five dollars each; and the said corpora-
tion shall bave the power to make and adopt a constitution
and by-laws, rules and regulations for the admission and ex-
pulsion of its members, and their government; the election
of its officers and to define their duties, and for the safe keep-
ing and protection of its property and funds; and from time
to time to alter or repeal such constitution, by-laws, rules
and regulations: provided, that the same be not inconsistent
with the constitution and laws of the United States or of the
state of Virginia.
3. The said corpuration may purchase and hold, or lease,
any real or personal estate: provided, that they shall not
hold any real estate exceuding one acre of land.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage, and be sub-
ject to amendment, alteration or modification, at the pleasure
of the general assembly.
