Volume 1968 Law 99
Law Body
Chap. 60.—An ACT for the relief of the Petersburg Aqueduct com-
pany.
Approved February 20, 1878.
Whereas it appears to the satisfaction of the general assem-
bly that by a mistake of the assessor, acknowledged by him,
the property of the Petersburg Aqueduct company, in the
county of Chesterfield, containing six and one-quarter acres,
entered on the land books of said county in the name of the
Petersburg Aqueduct company, was entered upon said land
books in eighteen hundred and seventy-five, at a valuation
greatly in excess of the true value thereof, and that without
default of said Petersburg Aqueduct company, this mistake
was not discovered until it was too late to correct the same,
under the provisions of the existing law; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for the county court of Chesterfield, upon
satisfactory proof that said assessment of said land is erro-
neous, to correct the same, and to take such action, and enter
such order in the premises, and with the same effect and
force and virtue as though the application for the correction
of said assessment had been made within the time limited
therefor by chapter three hundred and eighteen of the acts
of the general assembly of, Virginia, enacted at the session
of eighteen hundred and seventy-four and eighteen hundred
and seventy-five, approved March thirty-one, eighteen bun-
dred and seventy-five; and the proceedings had in the pre-
mises shall conform to the provisions of said chapter: pro-
vided that the jurisdiction hereby conferred upon said court
shall not be exercised unless said Petersburg aqueduct com-
pany shall apply to said court to correct said assessment
within three months from the passage of this act.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
