Chap. 298.—An ACT to authorize the snle of certain church property
belonging to the congregation of the Presbyterian church at Halifax
Courthouse, to make a valid title to the same, and to reinvest the
procecds of sale.
Approved March 14, 1878.
Whereas the congregation of the Presbyterian church at
Halifax courthouse are the owners of a lot of lund with a
church thereon situated at said place; and whereas for their
better convenience the said congregation have built a new
church at South Boston in the said county, and now desire
to have full legal authority through trustees to sell their said
property at Halifax courthouse, and to invest the proceeds
thereof in payment of the coxts and charges incurred in the
building of their said new church at South Boston: there-
fore,
1. Bo it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for Alex. Bruce, K. B. Spencer, and A. V.
Danie:, trustees for the said congregation of the Presby-
terian church at South Boston in the county of Halifax, or
their successors, and they are hereby authorized to sell at
such time and upon such terms as they may deem expedient,
the said lot of land together with the church-building thereon
situated at Halifax courtbouse and belonging to said congre-
gation, and appropriate the proceeds of said sale to the pay-
ment of the costs and cbarges incurred in building the new
church for the said Presbyterian congregation at South
Boston in said county. And the said church property at
South Boston is to be held by the said trustees, and their
successors for the use and benefit of the said Presbyterian
congregation as a place for divine worsbip.
2. The said trustees before proceeding to execute the trust
herein confided to them, are required to give bond and secu-
rity in-an amount equal to the value of the property afore-
said before the county court of the said county of Halifax,
or the judge thereof in vacation, conditioned for the true per-
formance of the trust aforesaid. And upon the payment of
all the purchase money, are authorized to convey and to
make a legal and valid title to said property to the pur-
chaser or purchasers thereof.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
