Chap. 293.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to
incorporate the United Ocean club of Norfolk city, approved Feb-
ruary 20, 1878..
Approved March 14, 1878.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Frank Collins, Andrew J. Dalton, John Stavro, E. C. Robin-
son, W. T. Taliaferro, John L. Nash, James Mayor, Francis
Wood, W. H. Lyons, Frank Slade, James F. Milligan, Wil-
liam F. Anderson, James L. Thayer, C. L. Benson, John
Webber, John Fullerton, J. R. Morris, W. F. Allen, Samuel
Kimberly, Randall B. James, N. W. Small, J. H. Pumphrey,
and such other persons as are now associated as the United
ocean club, or who may hereafter be associated with them,
be and they are hereby constituted a body corporate by the
name of The United Ocean Club, to be located in the city or
county of Norfolk, for the promotion of social intercourse,
and for the purpose of maintainin? a library and reading-
room.
2. The capital stock of the said corporation shall not be less
than one nor more than ten thousand dollars, to be divided
Into shares of twenty-five dollars cuch; and the said corpo-
ration shall have the power to make and adopt a constitu-
tion und by-laws, rules and regulations for the admission and
expulsion of its members, and their government; the elec-
-tion of its officers, and to define their duties; and for the
safe-keeping and protection of its property and funds; and
from time to time to alter or repeal such constitution, by-
laws, rules, and regulations: provided that the same be not
inconsistent with the constitution and the laws of the United
States or of the state of Virginia.
3. The said corporation may purchase and hold, or lease,
any real or personal estate: provided that they shall not
hold any real estate exceeding one acre of land.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage, and be sub-
ject to amendment, alteration, or modification, at the pleasure
of the general assembly.
