Chap. 255.—An ACT to secure the valuable papers and books in the
offices of the Treasurer and Second Auditor.
Approved March 14, 1878.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the trea-
surer is hereby directed to purchase three large iron safes,
two to be placed in the treasurer’s office and one in the
second auditor’s office, in which the most valuable bonds,
papers, and books of each office shall ke placed for safe-
keeping. The officers in charge of these offices are required
to keep said safes securely locked when the contents are not
in actual use, and any neglect in this behalf shall be con-
strued to be a breach of official trust.
2. That the treasurer shall advertise in New York for the
purchase of said safes, at second hand, but in good order and
suitable; and in payment for the said safes the sum-of six
hundred dollars, or so much thereof as may be needed, is
hereby appropriated from the treasury.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
