Chap. 248.—An ACT requiring the auditor of public accounts to make
quarterly payments to the second auditor on account of arrearages
due the public school fund.
Approved March 14, 1878.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts be and he is. hereby required
on the first day of July, eighteen hundred and seventy-eight,
and every three months thereafter, if practicable, to turn over
to the second auditor the sum of fifteen thousand dollars in
currency, out of the proceeds of the license taxes, and to con-
tinue to make these quarterly payments without further
order, demand, or requisition, until full payment shall have
been made of all arrearages due from the capitation and
property taxes set apart by mandate of the constitution and
law of the state forthe support of the public free school
system; that is to say, particularly of the sum of three hun-
dred and eighty-two thousand seven hundred and thirty-two
dollars and twenty-six cents, which has been reported by the
auditor of public accounts to be due from those sources for
the years eighteen hundred and seventy, seventy-one, sev-
enty-two, seventy-three, and seventy-four; which, when paid
in, as herein provided, sball be annually apportioned amongst
the several cities, counties, and towns of the commonwealth
as other school funds are apportioned and applied: provided
that the arrearages to the lunatic asylums shall first be paid.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
