Chap. 222.—JOINT RESOLUTIONS construing certain sections of
the fifth article of the constitution, as applicable to the sessions of the
general assembly.
Approved March 12, 1878.
1. Resolved by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
present session of the general assembly is not the first bien-
nial session under the fifth article of the constitution, as
amended, and that the length of the present session is
limited to ninety days, and can only be extended for a period
not exceeding thirty days, by the concurrence of three-fifths
of the members elected to each house.
2. Resolved, That the present session is not the first session
under the amendment to the sixth section of the fifth article
of the constitution, and that its length is limited to ninety
days, and can only be extende:l for a period not exceeding
thirty days by the concurrence of three-fifths of the members
elected to each house.
3. Resolved, First: That the first session of the general
assembly, under the constitution as amended, will be that of
the general assembly to be elected on the Tuesday succeed-
ing the first Monday in November, eighteen hundred and
seventy-nine; and that the session of the general assembly
then to be chosen, and which will assemble on the first
Wednesday in December, eighteen hundred and seventy-
nine, will be unlimited in duration. Second: And the first
biennial session under said constitution, will be that of the
general assembly to be clected on the Tuesday succeeding
the first Monday in November, eighteen hundred and
seventy-nine. |
4, Resolved, That this general assembly is, by virtue of
the constitution, required to assemble in session on the first
Wednesday in December, cighteen hundred and seventy-
eight.
