Chap. 214.—An ACT confirming the purchase of a lot of land by the
Boydton Baptist Church, and authorizing the sale of the same,,or a
portion thereof; and authorizing the trustees to borrow money to
erect a house of worship.
Approved March 12, 1878.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the purchase by C. N. Williams, E. L. Baptist, and Peter
Puryear, trustees of the Boydton Baptist church, from George
B. Finch, trustee in a deed of trust made by the Mecklen-
burg female college, bearing date the fourth day of March,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five, of a lot or
parcel of land, containing about fourteen acres, about four of
which lie in the corporate limits of the town of Boydton,
being the same land described in the deed of trust aforesaid
to George B. Finch, and of record in the clerk’s office of
Mecklenburg county, Virginia, be and the same is hereby
ratified and confirmed.
2. That the said C. N. Williams, E. L. Baptist, and Peter
Puryear, trustees of the Boydton Baptist church, or their
successors in office, are hereby authorized and empowered to
sell the above mentioned parcel or lot of land, or any frac-’
tional part thereof, for the benefit of said church, and to
execute proper deeds to purchasers for the same; and, with
the consent of a majority of the members of said church, to
borrow a sum of money, not to exceed two thousand dollars,
at a rate of interest not to exceed ten per centum, for the
erection of a house of worship. In order to negotiate the
said loan, when authorized as aforesaid, the said trustees may
execute a deed of trust on all property belonging to the said
church.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
