Chap. 209.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act approved April 2,
1877, entitled an act to prohibit und prevent the officers and agents of
corporations from becoming contractors with the said corporations.
Approved March 12, 1878.
1. Be it enacted by the gencral assembly, That the act
approved on the second day Pot April, cighteen hundred and
seventy-seven, entitled an act to prohibit and prevent the
officers and agents of corporations from becoming contrac-
tors with the said corporations, be amended and re-enacted
80 “ to read as follows:
$1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall
not be lawful for any member of the council or board of
aldermen, or any other oflicer or agent, including commis-
sioners appointed for the opening of’ xtreets, and “including
also all members of committees constituted or appointed for
the management, regulation, or control of corporate prop-
erty, of any city or other incorporated town, to be a con-
tractor with the said corporation, or its agents or committee
appointed or constituted to manage, regulate, or control its
corporate property, for any work or labor ordered to be
done, or goods, wares, or merchandise, or supplies of any
kind ordered by the said corporation, or such committee, as
aforesaid, to be purchased, or in any manner, directly or indi-
rectly, interested in the profits in any such contract; and
every contract made in violation of this act shall be utterly
void, and the officer or agent or member of such committee
aforesaid making it, shall forfeit and pay to the state the full
amount of money stipulated for by said contract, to be
recovered by motion in the circuit court having jurisdiction
over the said corporation: provided that this act shall not
apply to towns of under two thousand inhabitants.
