1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Thomas M. Carter, John J. Pritchett, Wilham A. J. Pinney,
Hezekiah Pige, Bh. TPT. Jones, Frank ©. Hubbard, and Gideon
A. Keen, are hereby released trom the payment of any por-
tion of a judgment recovered in the circuit court of the city
of Richmond, at the November termn, cighteen hundred and
sixty-eight, by the commonwealth of Virginia against Charles
LL. Powell, late sheriff of Pittsylvania county, and Edward C,
Murphy, Thomas M. Carter, John J. Pritchett, William A. J.
Finney, John T. Brightwell, John fs. Tuches, Elisha Keen,
junior, Albert G. Pulier, Hezekiah Pigs, Prank G. ILubbard,
Gideon BK. Keen, John W. Jones, i. LT. Jones, Charles W.
Yeatts, and Richard Parker, sureties of said Powell, for the
sum of cight thousand seven hundred and fifty-five dollars
and ninety-three cents, with interest at the rate of twelve
per centum per annum on four thousand one hundred and
thirty dollars and ninety-six cents, a part thereof from
December twenty-eight, cighteen hundred and sixty-seven,
and on four thousand six hundred and twenty-four dollars
and ninety-seven cents, the residue thereof, from March
second, eighteen hundred and sixty-eight, and also one thou-
sand three hundred and thirteen dollars and thirty-nine
cents, damages, and fifteen dollars and fifty-eight cents, costs,
and from all other liabilities to the commonwealth of Vir-
ginia, on account of their suretyship for said Charles L.
Powell, late sheriff of Pittsylvania county.
2. But nothing in this act shall be construed to affect in
any manner the liability of the other sureties of said Powell
on the bond or bonds of said Powell, sheriff as aforesaid, or
as relieving said Powell from any liability whatever.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
