Chap. 13.—An ACT to amend and re-enact the 14th section of chapter
13 of the Code of 1878, as amended by an act approved February 10th,
1876, and in reference to the pay of judges of the circuit, chancery,
and hustings court of the city of Richmond, and hustings court of
Norfolk, Petersburg, and Portsmouth, so as to authorize the council
of the city of Danville to increase the salary and compensation of the
judge of the hustings court of said city.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the four-
teenth section of chapter thirteen of the Code of eighteen
hundred and seventy-three, as amended by an act approved
February tenth, eighteen bundred and seventy six, be amen-
ded and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 14. The council of the city of Richmond are hereby
authorized and empowered to add to and increase the sala-
ries and compensation of the judges of the circuit court, of
the chancery court, and of the bhustings court of said city;
and the council of the city of Petersburg, and the council of
the city of Norfolk, and the council of the city of Ports.

authorized and empowered to add to and increase the salary
and compensation of the judges of the hustings courts of
said cities: provided that said addition and increase shall be
a charge upon and be paid out of the treasuries of said cities
respectively: and, provided further, that said increase shall
mot exceed one thousand dollars per annum for any one of
the judges of the courts of said cities respectively; and that
the city councils of said citics shall have power to reduce the
amount of addition whenever they may think proper: pro-
vided that snch reduction shall not take effect until after the
expiration of the term of the judge then in office.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
