Chap. 128.—An ACT to enable the cities of Richmond and Lynchburg
to aid in the repair of the James River and Kanawha Canal.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
lawful for the councils of the cities of Richmond and Lynch-
burg, respectively, to extend aid to the James river and
Kanawha company in completing the repairs of its canal,
either by loans to said company, or by exchange of bonds,
or in such other way as may be agreed on, so that such aid
shall not exceed the sum of fifty thousand dollars by the city
of Richmond, and twenty-five thousand dollars by the city
of Lynchburg, in addition to the amounts already contribu-
ted or authorized by existing laws; and the debt or liability
which either of said cities may incur under this act, shall
not be taken into account in estimating its limit of indebted-
ness as prescribed by the respective charters of said cities.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
