Chap. 124.—An ACT to submit the question of repealing the fence law
to the voters of Brentsville and Manassas districts in Prince William
county.
Approved February 28, 1878.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be the duty of the officers conducting the elections
in the Brentsville district, and the Manassas district of the
county of Prince William, at the time and places of hold-
ing the first general election after the passage of this act, to
prepare a separate ballot-box for the several voting precincts,
in which shall be deposited the ballots of the then qualified
voters, who may desire to vote upon the question of con-
tinuing or repealing the present fence law in said districts.
The ballots shall be, respectively, as follows: “For present
fence law;” “Against present fence law”: provided that
notice shall be given by the sheriff, posting the time and
places of voting on the front door of the courthouse, and at
the several voting places in the said districts, fifteen days
before the day of election.
2. The manner of receiving and canvassing the ballots at
such election on said question, and making return and ab-
stract thereof, shall conform in all respects to the require-
ments of the general election law of the state, except that
the certificate of the judges shall be as follows:
We hereby certify, that at the election held ,
votes were cast for present fence law, and votes were
cast against present fence law.

3. If it shall appear from the abstracts and returns of said
election, that three-fifths of the qualified voters of the district
voting upon the question, and that said three-fifths inclades
a majority of votes cast by freeholders-at such election and
@ majority of the registered voters of the district are against
the present fence law, then it shall be the duty of the county
court to declare all acts or orders creating or defining a fence
law in said district, repealed and rescinded: provided, how-
ever, that said repeal shall not take effect until twelve
months after the passage of this act.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
