Chap. 99.—An ACT to provide for the custody of State and all other
Bonds held by the Board of Education for the benefit of certain Colleges.
Approved February 26, 1877.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
the duty of the board of education to turn over to the second
auditor all state or other bonds held by that board, for the
benefit of the Virginia agricultural and mechanical college,
and the Hampton normal and agricultural institute, and to.
take and file his receipt therefor. As soon as the said bonds
are received by the second auditor, it shall be his duty to
enter on his books as registered stock, any bonds belonging
to that fund which are not already so entered, and in lieu of
the bonds themselves, to Substitute a statement prepared and
signed in duplicate by the treasurer, and countersigned by
the second auditor, showing the number, size, and character
of these bonds, with the amount of interest due on them
severally, which statement shall have all the validity and
force of the bonds in lieu of which it is given. One copy of
this statement shall be delivered to the board of education
for preservation, ard the other shall be kept by the second
auditor along with the otber registered stock; and the in-
terest thereon shall be paid in accordance with acts hereto-
fore passed. It shall be the duty of the second auditor to
cancel the bonds for which the statement herein prescribed
shall have been substituted, together with their coupons, and
to preserve the same for future reference. -
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
