Chap. 357.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 2 of an act to
amend section 5, chapter J14, Code of 1873, with reference to recorda-
tion of deeds, approved January 29th, 1877. :
Approved April 4, 1877.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the second
section of an act entitled an act to amend section five of
chapter one hundred: and fourteen of the Code of eighteen
hundred and seventy-three, with reference to recordation of
deeds, approved January twenty-six, eighteen hundred and
seventy-seven, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as
follows:
§ 2. And this act shall not be construed to validate the re-
cordation of any deed, power of attorney, or other writing,
in respect to real or personal property situated within the
corporate limits of any city or town having a corporation or
hustings court, or chancery court, where such recordation
has been made since the year eighteen hundred and sixty-
seven, in any court otber than the corporation witbin the
corporate limits of which said property is situated. And no
deed or writing, or power of attorney, in respect to property
situated without such corporate limits, which has been re-
corded heretofore in a corporation or hustings court, or chan-
cery court of such corporation, shall be valid as against cre-
ditors or purchasers for value, without notice, after the first
day of July, eighteen hundred and seventy-seven: provided
however, that the provisions of this section shall not apply
to the city of Danville; or county of Pittsylvania.
2. This act shall be in force from its passaye.
