Chap. 348.—An ACT toamend and re-enact section 4of an act entitled
an act to provide for working the roads and repairing the bridges in
the counties of Buckingham, Rockbridge, Smyth and Pulaski, ap-
proved March 6, 1877.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That section
four of an act entitled an act to provide for working the roads
and repairing the bridges in the counties of Buckingham,
Rockbridge, Smyth and Pulaski, approved March sixth, eigh-
teen hundred and seventy-seven, be amended and re-enacted
so as to read as follows:
§ 4. The board of road commissioners shall, as soon as they
shall be organized, proceed to appoint one overseer of roads
for each precinct established by them, not exceeding three,
in the counties of Buckingham, Rockbridge and Pulaski, and
five in the county of Smyth, for each magisterial district, who
shall reside therein, and shall have charge of the roads and
bridges in his precinct. His term of office, after the first ap-
pointment, shall be two years, beginning on the first day of
August succeeding his appointment. He shall qualify before
the said board, and enter into a bond payable to them, in a
penalty of at least double the value of any property, and
amount of any tax tickets or money likely to come into his
hands, and with security approved by them. They shall, not
later than the fifteenth day of July, in the year eighteen
hundred and seventy-nine, and in every second year there-
after, appoint one overseer of roads for each precinct in their
district.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
