Chap. 304.—An ACT directing the governor to hire not more thanefifty
nor less than twenty-five convicts to president Upper Appomattox
canal company.
Approved April 2, 1877.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the governor be and he is hereby directed to hire to the pre-
sident of the Upper Appomattox canal company, not more
than fifty nor less than twenty-five able-bodied convicts, for
a term of not more than three nor less than one year, from
the date of the passage of this act.
2. The cost of hire in full for said convicts shall be the
cost of feeding, clothing, and guarding, which shall be at the
exclusive expense of said Upper Appomattox company.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
