Chap. 293.—An ACT authorizing the corporate authorities of Char-
lottesville to erect dams and reservoirs and lav pipes to supply said
town with water, and to acquire land by purchase or condemnation
for said purposes. ]

Whereas the town of Charlottesville, in the county of
Albemarle, is greatly exposed to danger by fire, by reason of
its inadequate supply of water; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the corporate authorities of the said town of Charlottesville
be and they are hereby authorized and empowered to erect
suitable dams and reservoirs, and to lay suitable pipes, to
supply said town with an adequate supply of water, and for
that purpose to acquire either by purchase or by condemna-
tion, according to the provisions of the general law for the
condemnation of lands by incorporated towns, such lands
and so much thereof as may be necessary for the aforesaid
purposes.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
