Chap. 245.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sections 18 and 19 of
chapter 13 of the Code of 1873, in relation to pay and mileage of
members of the general assembly.
Approved March 29, 1577.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
sections eighteen and nineteen of chapter thirteen, Code of
cigbteen hundred and seventy-three, be amended and re-
enacted so as to read aa follows:
§ 18. The president of tho senate and the speaker of the
house of delegates shall each receive the sumof nine hundred
dollars, and each of the other members of the general as-
sembly the sum of five hundred and forty dollars for atten-
dance and services on each regular session of the general
assembly; and on all extza sessions, the president of the
senate and the speaker of the house of delegates shall each
receive four hundred dollara, and each of the other members
of the general assembly the sum of two hundred and forty
dollars, for attendance upon the duties of their respective
houses. Any sick member, or one who shall have obtained
leave of absence, shall receive such wages as are due him in
the same manner asif he had been in his seat. The salaries
shall be paid in the following manner, viz: The president of
the senate and speaker of the bouse shall each receive the
sum of seventy dollars each week, until their salarics are
exhausted, or until the general assembly adjourns, at which
time the whole amount of their salaries remaining unpaid, if
any, shall then be paid; and each of the other members of
the general assem Diy shall reccive the sum of forty-two dol-
lars each week, until their salaries are exhausted, or until the
general assembly adjourns, at which time the whole amount
of their salaries remaining unpaid, if any, shall then be paid.
§ 19. The members of the general assembly shall receive
ten cents per mile for every mile of necessary travel to and
from the. place of meeting of the general assembly, to be
computed according to the nearest. mail route.
