Chap. 244.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 1 of an act en-
titled an act to prevent the further burial of convicts within the cur-
porate limits of the city of Richmond, approved March 31, 1875.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That section
one of an act entitled an act to prevent the further burial of
convicts within the corporate limits of the city of Richmond.
approved March ‘thirty-first, eighteen hundred and seventy-
five, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall
be the duty of the board of directors of the penitentiary,
and the superintendent of the penitentiary, to provide for
the burial of convicts, who may die during the term of their
sentence,.at some suitable and convenient place outside of the
corporate limits of the city of Richmond, distant not less
than three miles from the same. And for that purpose the
said board of directors are hereby authorized and directed
to purchase, as early as practicable, a suitable lot of land,
not to exceed five acres in extent, at a cost not exceeding
twenty dollars per acre. And the board of directors shall
cause said lot to be enclosed and divided into two sections,
tor the separate burial of white and colored convicts.
2. This act shall be in force from its pasaave.
