Chap. 211.—An ACT to amend section 1, chapter 100, Code of 1873, in
riation to hauling seines in the waters of the Chesapeake bay and its
tributaries.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That section one
ef chapter one hundred of the Code of Virginia, edition of
tighteen bandred and seventy-three, be amended and re-
enacted, so as to read as tollows:
$1. If any person shall, in any year, after the first day of
June, and before the first day of September, haul:a seine be-
low the mouth of any river in this state, or in the waters of
the counties of Northampton and Accomac, or set weirs or
scines, or haul a seine in the waters of the said counties after
the first day of June, and before the first day of September,
he shall forfeit fifty dollars; but this section shall not be con-
strued to prevent the hauling of seines in the waters of tho
counties of Elizabeth City, James City, York, Princess Anne
and Norfolk, or in that part of the Chesapeake bay: adjoining
the said counties, between the first day of January and the
first day of November, in any year. The citizens in the
county of Northampton shall be, and they are hereby au-
thorized to haul a seine or seines in the waters of said county
during the months of June, July and August, for the purpose
of catching a fish known by the name of alewive; and if,
perchance, any other fish should be caught, they shall be
thrown overboard. And they shall be further authorized to
haul a seine or sceines, for family use, in the waters of the
North fork of Old Plantation creek, in the jurisdiction of
Northampton county, running from the south line of the land
on which N.S. Goffigon at present resides, to its source, dur-
ing the said months of June, July and August.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
